Throughout northern Europe, thousands of burial mounds were erected in the third millennium BCE. Starting in the Corded Ware culture, individual people were being buried underneath these mounds, often equipped with an almost rigid set of grave goods. This practice continued in the second half of the third millennium BCE with the start of the Bell Beaker phenomenon. In large parts of Europe, a ?typical? set of objects was placed in graves, known as the ?Bell Beaker package?.0This book focusses on the significance and meaning of these Late Neolithic graves. Why were people buried in a seemingly standardized manner, what did this signify and what does this reveal about these individuals, their role in society, their cultural identity and the people that buried them?0By performing in-depth analyses of all the individual grave goods from Dutch graves, which includes use-wear analysis and experiments, the biography of grave goods is explored. How were they made, used and discarded? Subsequently the nature of these graves themselves are explored as contexts of deposition, and how these are part of a much wider ?sacrificial landscape?.0A novel and comprehensive interpretation is presented that shows how the objects from graves were connected with travel, drinking ceremonies and maintaining long-distance relationships.

Reformen im Gesundheitswesen stehen seit Jahrzehnten mit großer Regelmäßigkeit und hoher Priorität auf der politischen Agenda der europäischen Staaten. Längst haben die Reformdiskussionen aber die nationalstaatliche Ebene verlassen. Das Europäische Recht formuliert wesentliche Voraussetzungen für die Ausgestaltung nationaler Gesundheitssysteme, daher müssen sich die Mitgliedstaaten der Europäischen Union auch der Frage stellen, ob die Reformen ihres Gesundheitswesens in Übereinstimmung mit dem Europäischen Recht stehen. Die vorliegende wissenschaftliche Analyse von Johan van de Gronden diskutiert die Vereinbarkeit verschiedener Strukturreform-Szenarien mit dem Europäischen Recht. Sie hat dazu beigetragen, den Boden für die in den Niederlanden am 1. Januar 2006 in Kraft getretenen umfangreichen strukturellen Reformen zu bereiten. Da die Studie auch für die deutsche Diskussion wertvolle Hinweise bezüglich möglicher Reform-Szenarien und hinsichtlich der Vereinbarkeit deutscher Reformvorstellungen mit dem Europäischen Recht enthält, legt die Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Kooperation mit dem Wissenschaftlichen Institut der CDA die Studie der Fachöffentlichkeit in deutscher Übersetzung vor.

The Netherlands have a long-termstanding experience concerning regarding the reuse of churches. The work delivers an in-depth analysis of current re-use practises and strategies that is following a mixed methods approach. Based on an initial policy analysis, 35 re-used churches were investigated by mapping their spatial and structural characteristics, complemented by governance and planning process related attributes. The work provides conditions, enablers and barriers for the German situation.

An important part of the Dutch national treasure of early printed books from before 1801 on military and related subjects is kept in military libraries and collections. This catalogue contains 10,000 books in twelve different languages dated 1500–1800 from nine different Defence institutions/collections, representing both Army and Navy. By far the largest collections are the property of the Royal Netherlands Army Museum in Delft and the Royal Netherlands Military Academy in Breda. A great if not substantial part of these books is especially of international significance because of the contents, the intrinsic value or as historical objects. It took eight years to trace and describe these books, all of which have been given extensive analytical bibliographic descriptions. The book includes over 2000 illustrations .
